On Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 9:00 a.m., the Inaugural Conference of the first edition of the Jean Monnet EU-GLOBACT Module “Transnational Crime and EU Law: towards Global Action against Cross-border Threats to common security, rule of law and human rights” co-funded by the European Commission (2023-2026) will take place in the “Nicola Cilento” room of the University of Salerno.
The Jean Monnet EU-GLOBACT Project, coordinated by Prof. Anna Oriolo, aims to promote excellence in teaching and research in EU legal studies at the University of Salerno and, in particular, at the Department of Legal Sciences (DSG), by offering a free, highly specialized and interdisciplinary course on the emerging global EU policy on the fight against transnational crime, relevant for the future professional life of graduates and for the specialist training of legal and political practitioners.
The International Symposium (also co-financed by the French Embassy in Italy) entitled “Transnational Crime, Global Emergencies and Human Rights: The Judicial Cooperation for the Protection of Common Values of the European Union” is organized in the framework of the IECLO Multidisciplinary Legal Observatory (www.ieclo.org), based at the DSG and is open to free participation the academic community (students, postgraduates, PhD students, researchers, scholars), the legal professions, political operators, civil society in general.
After the welcoming addresses of Prof. Vincenzo Loia (Rector of the University of Salerno) and Profs. Francesco Fasolino (Director of the Department of Legal Sciences), Giuseppe D’Angelo (President of the Teaching Council of the Department of Legal Sciences), Giovanni Sciancalepore (Director of the School of Specialization for the Legal Professions) and Ms. Maria Rizzo (Head of the ERASMUS Office), Prof. Anna Oriolo will illustrate the contents and structure of the EU-GLOBACT Course. This will be followed by four working sessions on: I. EU Crime Priorities, Global Emergencies and Judicial Cooperation for the Protection of Common Values (chaired by F. Roberti, who will host the reports and speeches of A. Di Stasi, A. Sessa, R. Alfano, A. Rosanò, S. Busillo); II. EU Values and Interests Facing Economic Dimension of Transnational Crime in Time of Global Emergencies (chaired by Prof. A. R, Castaldo, which will host the reports and interventions of M. Nino, C. Risi, L. Saenko, M.E. Castaldo, L. Bernardini, G. Naddeo); III. EU Values, Global Emergencies and Corporate Responsibility for Transnational Crime (chaired by Dr. M. Amirante, who will host the reports and speeches of A. Oriolo, V. Mercier, F. Iovino, E. Vannata, G. Bruzzese); IV. EU Global Actorship in the Fight against Crimes of General Interest: The Emergencies of Criminal Justice (chaired by Prof. V. Mercier, who will host the papers and interventions of P. Bargiacchi, A. Matwijkiw, V. Cama).
Due to the prestige of the participants and the scientific relevance of the initiative, the Italian Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Interior have granted their patronage and the use of the institutional logo.
